Extraction Plains - concept Environment for a personal project.

This was an image I had worked on a while back and only now had the chance to put the final touches on, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I worked on this image back and forth in b&w and color to focus heavily on the values. I wanted to populate it as this is a general concept for a personal project of mine intended to be a video game. Some inspiration came from "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Hellboy 2". I hope you like it.

Pathfinder Bestiary 2

A few images produced for Paizo Publishing: Pathfinder Bestiary 2 which was just released. You can find the book here: Bestiary 2 on Amazon If you pick up the book, there are so many great designs. A few artists who stood out in particular for me were, Eric Belisle and Branko Bistrovic. I loved the Viper Vine, Brownie, Death Worm and Athatch.

Serpent's Skull - City of Seven Spears

A few images released for Paizo Publishing's "Serpent's Skull: City of Seven Spears". I'm happier with some images than others but I think I had the most fun and am the happiest with how the "Umasi" and "Mokele-Mbeme" turned out. There are still 6 images yet to be released for another Pathfinder title that will be out soon. I hope you enjoy these.

Misfit Monsters Redeemed

A few months back I did some work for Paizo Publishing for the first time for a few of their Pathfinder titles including: Misfit Monsters Redeemed.

I haven't had nearly as much time as I'd like to continue this personal project, and so in order to really get the general idea of things down on paper, not wasting too much time rendering things out, working in color, playing with light etc. I've just been ironing out rough thumbnails and a few slightly more refined images in pigment liner pens. The whole story, gameplay ideation, influence, most of the designs and general look of the project are all in my head. It's just a matter of having enough personal time to complete things.

Delacor Draco - Advanced Photoshop Issue 063

A conceptual illustration created for Advanced Photoshop magazine Issue 063. The editor Julie asked for a simple creative creature workshop involving a dragon flying toward the viewer. The only two restrictions were the POV and they didn't want a red dragon. Senior staff writer Adam art directed the remaining work. It was suggested that I just keep the background simple because of the tight deadline.

Preliminary rough thumbnails and sketches for proportion adjustments, composition and conceptual references used to create the above Illustration.

I didn't want to go with the typical dragon, so I had suggested the idea of a butterfly and parrot colored dragon with similar elements tied into the design and patterns. This is a 4 page workshop that covered some simple custom brush creation and creature design ideation on pages 56-59 , the issue is out now.

It's about time I went back to and finally finished this conceptual Illustration. Just an idea based on a rough thumbnail for a big brute demon, but along the way his forearms developed into a sort of crab/hand with a few additional pinchers for his fingers. I just thought it made him look a little more brute-ish.

Based on a thumbnail included in the sketchbook page of the previous post. This was produced in the same style and technique as the Rakio Croc and Hogort. Using photo textures that were painted over to provide a quick background for the concept, as well as photo texture use for the creatures skin and surface texture base.

I have been drawing/painting using livestream lately for those who want to drop in and check out how I work. This is a creature I produced during a few sessions:

Rakio Croc - A large thick skinned slow moving scavenger with poor eye site. The original concept was based on a very small thumbnail produced with Staedtler pigment liner pens in my little doodle book. I'll include the page of sketches as well.

Necrosis Calamus * For Sale

A Deity of Life and Death, harbinger of birds, container of plagues. The Necrosis Calamus is comprised of elemental and organic features. Contained within are my love for the design of birds and nature while presenting an eerie nature to the Deity. This was done on 9x12 Strathmore Bristol (Vellum) paper in Pigment Liner Pens. It's signed and dated. The original doesn't contain any of the text or aged paper texture/color you see here. The original is signed, dated and sprayed with a workable fixitif.
